Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC), New Delhi, India

The basic objective of Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC) is to provide front ranking accelerator based research facilities to create possibilities for internationally competitive research within the university system. IUAC is an autonomous organization which provides accelerator facilities to universities for basic and applied research in nuclear physics, atomic physics, materials science, biosciences and other allied fields. IUAC has a running Pelletron, a tandem Van de graaf type accelerator. IUAC houses research facilities like Indian National Gamma Array (INGA), HYbrid Recoil mass Analyzer (HYRA), National Array of Neutron Detectors (NAND), Gamma Detector Array (GDA), etc.

Students studying in second /third year B. Sc. (Physics) in any Indian college university/institute can apply for summer project to be conducted at IUAC during June every year. The aim of the program is to expose young students to research opportunities in experimental physics and impart hands-on training to them by scientists of IUAC. Each selected student would be expected to carry out a short project in experimental physics, guided by a mentor. A few special lectures and guided tour of the experimental facilities of IUAC is also arranged.
