University of Florence, Italy

The University of Florence is an important and influential centre for research and higher training in Italy. It offers a wide range of study programmes at various levels and in all areas of knowledge. 126 Degree courses (First and Second Cycle, corresponding to Bachelor's and Master's Degrees) organized in 10 Schools, with a population of about 51,000 enrolled students. It is one of the largest and most productive public research systems in Italy. Researchers at the University of Florence operate within 24 different departments and have at their disposal approximately 40 research structures comprising of inter-departmental and inter-university centres as well as specialized research, knowledge transfer and advanced training centres.


The degree program is designed to prepare graduates with a good basic knowledge in key areas of Biological Sciences and familiarity with specific methods of scientific inquiry. In particular, graduates in Biological Sciences must:

1. have adequate basic knowledge of the different areas of the biological sciences ;
2. acquire methodological knowledge and technological multidisciplinary biological investigation;
3. possess solid skills and operational abilities and applications in biology, with particular reference to technical procedures of biological analyzes and instrumental broad spectrum, aimed at research, monitoring and control;
4. be able to use effectively, in written and oral form, at least one European language other than Italian, in the specific field of competence and for the exchange of information;
5. possess adequate skills and tools for communication and information management;
6. be able to work in a team, operating at various levels of autonomy and fit in quickly in the workplace;
7. possess the cognitive tools base for continuous updating of their knowledge.

To be admitted to the Bachelor's Degree the student must be in possession of a secondary school diploma certificate/degree or other qualification obtained abroad is required. For the academic year 2015-2016 the student is expected to go through a programmed written test which comprises of basic scientific knowledge in field of biology.
